About the Studio

The eye behind Halcyon Reed Photo

A San Francisco studio for photography and film — deliberate, warm and quietly obsessive about light.

Our Story

Ten years, one principle: never rush a frame

Halcyon Reed Photo began in 2015 with a secondhand medium-format camera and a borrowed studio corner in SoMa. The first commissions were family portraits and headshots; the reputation grew the slow way — one delighted client telling another.

Today the studio works across portraits, advertising films, music videos and festival short films. The crew stays deliberately small: Halcyon directs every shoot, supported by a producer, a gaffer and an editor who have worked together for years. That continuity shows — in the shorthand on set, and in the consistency of the final grade.

How We Work

Three passes over every production

01

Creation — the idea

Every commission starts with a treatment: references, locations, light studies and a shot list you approve before anyone picks up a camera.

02

Development — the shoot

Small crews, real locations, unhurried schedules. We direct gently and shoot generously, so the edit has room to breathe.

03

Production — the finish

Edit, grade and sound in-house. Two review rounds are included, and nothing delivers until it earns its place in the cut.

The Crew

Small team, long collaborations

You will meet the same faces from first call to final delivery. Halcyon directs; Mara produces; June lights; Theo cuts. No hand-offs to strangers, no juniors learning on your budget.
